DIY SOS, BBC Children in Need Special appeals for volunteers

Today has been emotional and eventful already. Thank you to our gorgeous neighbours, particularly Mark and Trudy who made everyone tea and coffee and provided biscuits and cold drinks to the children, workmen, media and staff and volunteers. Yet again giving up their electricity and front garden for the local media. Also thank you to bungie for taking down the fences and Gaynor and Becky for moral support. Thanks to all the Roots team who could make it, we are so excited to share this journey with you.

BBC Children in Need

This year, Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team are heading to The Roots Foundation Wales in Swansea for their BBC Children in Need Special!

Read our press release here:

We have packed up our things and have put it in storage, the electricity has been switched off and the door is locked. Roots will be working in almost a virtual capacity for the time being but we have loads of activities booked for throughout the summer. We will explain why very soon but hope you understand. We are still reachable by phone and email, so please stay in touch x

The Roots Foundation Wales would like to say a Big Thank You to all of you who voted for us on the Third Sector Awards Cymru as the 'Most Admired Organisation'. I am delighted to announce that we were runner up on the 'Most Admired Organisation' category.

Our young people were nominated for a High 5 award for volunteering on our Baby box of care project and won!

The Roots Foundation Wales News and Events

We are seeking young people in care, care leavers and those in kinship care to get involved in an "Identity and Belonging project". This stage includes a photography element - where we would like you to take photos of what represents you? What is important to you? What does Identity and belonging mean to you? Photo's don't have to be of yourself and you can be as creative, and challenging as you want. Everyone will receive a copy of their photo in print form and possibly be put up for an exhibition and the opportunity to win a prize. We have camera's available for those who do not have access to any.

The Roots Foundation Wales are seeking care leavers including adult care leavers and those in kinship care to participate in a professional photo-shoot to celebrate the end of our Warrior Face Project - there will be face painting and make up included - food, refreshments and travel costs will be provided and you will also get a copy of your professional photo. Please phone 01792 584254 to confirm your attendance or email us @
